Kansas Air Filtration Company Camfil Air Filters - Kansas Notes Record-Breaking Ozone Levels, According to Air Quality Professionals
Global air filtration manufacturer and engineering company Camfil explains what causes ozone levels to exceed safe levels during Kansas City summers.
Kansas City, MO — A total of ten ozone alerts were issued in Kansas City during the month of June this year — the highest number since 2012, which also had ten ozone alerts in June.
In a new resource, air pollution professionals from global air filtration manufacturer and engineering company Camfil explain what causes ozone levels to exceed safe levels during Kansas City summers and how residents of the city can protect their health from the effects of ozone exposure.
“Although the short-term health effects of breathing in ozone are typically reversible, long-term exposure or repeated episodes of acute exposure can cause permanent damage, even at relatively low levels,” says Camfil’s Mark Davidson, “The EPA’s threshold for unsafe ozone levels (75 parts per billion) is regularly exceeded during the summer in many parts of the United States, and exposure to these levels can cause a lasting reduction in lung capacity and reduced ability of the immune system to fight respiratory infections, even in healthy individuals.”
The resource covers:
What is ozone?
Where does ground-level ozone come from?
What health issue does ozone cause?
What are the environmental effects of ground-level ozone?
When are ozone alerts issued in Kansas City?
What should you do during an ozone alert?
